According to reports, Mageel and his accomplice had approached Sabrina Leite in front of her house. Mageel demanded she gave him her smartphone.
She, however, threw her phone into her house before they could take it. Mageel panicked and tried to make a run for it but he never made it back on the motorcycle with his partner in crime.
Ms Leite said: ‘I could feel that they didn’t have anything (weapons), and that’s why I reacted. If they had been armed I would never have reacted. He was running away.
My neighbour went after him in the car and reached him. Then I ran and immobilized him with a sleeper hold, I lay on the ground and put him in an arm lock.’
Ms Leite spent 20 minutes on the ground with the suspect until the police arrived and arrested him for attempted robbery. Leite learnt the arm lock through practising jiu-jitsu.
