BREAKING: Doctors decline to cancel strike regardless of 13-hour meeting

The National association of Resident Doctors on Thursday declined to cancel its strike in spite of holding a 13-hour meeting with representatives of the Government.

The meeting, which held at the Government Secretariat in Abuja, finished in the early hours of Thursday, had in participation the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige; the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole; and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

As indicated by an announcement by the Ministry of Labour, the strike would proceed until at any rate Friday when the doctors are relied upon to meet to audit the offer by the government on their requests including payment of salary arrears owed.

“The meeting concurred that NARD national officers will show the result of the re-arranged Notice of Terms of settlement to a crisis meeting of its individuals by Friday September 8, 2017 with a view to suspending the strike once there is proof of of payment of the mandate as presented to the meeting, to the affected institutions,” the statement noted.
